Town Hall Meetings

LRRMAC Forestville Town Hall

(Lower Russian River Municipal Advisory Council)

When: Wednesday, January 26, 2022
Time: 5:30 PM

POSTPONED

Due to concerns about the Omicron virus quickly spreading throughout Sonoma County, the Town Hall is postponed until March of 2022. We are finding a date that will work for the 5th District Supervisor and Transit and Public Works. That date and time will be posted as soon as it’s confirmed.

The agenda will remain basically the same, giving time for introductions of our current Firemen and a presentation from “Fire Safe” organizations, an update on the Downtown Oaks Park, the Skatepark, the Chamber and we will hear from TPW on their plans to upgrade sidewalks and crosswalks in downtown Forestville. See agenda below for more info.

Agenda (as of January)

Fire Safety
In 2021 Forestville Fire consolidated with the Sonoma County Fire District (sonomacountyfd.org) and Chief Dave Franceschi retired after 43 years serving our community. This consolidation allows our fire district to employ more full-time service providers and increase the efficiency of local fire services. Chief Patrick Mills will introduce members of his team so we know who is protecting our home.

In the meantime Safer West County, a division of Fire Safe Sonoma (firesafesonoma.org), is encouraging communities to form Fire Safe Councils that will help us be better prepared for emergencies as well as qualify for funding and grants. We are looking for participants to form a Fire Safe Forestville council so will be learning about benefits of having a local council and what that entails. An excellent example of a local council is Fire Safe Occidental (firesafeoccidental.org)

Downtown Sidewalks & Crosswalks
Forestville’s two quarries contribute funds for maintenance and improvements to balance the impacts of having quarries running gravel trucks through downtown. Sonoma County Transportation and Public Works (sonomacounty.ca.gov/transportation-and-public-works) will be presenting updates to their plans for improving pedestrian safety at the main intersections of our downtown. Since the 2017 fires and subsequent fires and floods, project improvements like ours have been postponed while vital repairs and maintenance were performed. This presentation will bring us up-to-date on these safety measures.

Forestville Downtown Oaks Park
The Forestville Planning Association (95436.org) purchased almost 4 acres of downtown in 2013 to form a public park for our community and is now moving forward with plans for further improvements. They will be presenting plans that were submitted to Permit Sonoma to make our park more user-friendly into the future. Thanks to Sonoma County Regional Parks, the West County Trail now starts in downtown Forestville.

Skatespot SkatePark
For almost a decade a group of passionate citizens have been working on creating a skatepark for our youth. Skaters met earlier this year with New Line Skateparks who will be presenting proposed designs for the park. A location has yet to be confirmed but with community support, the dream is getting closer to reality. Learn more at forestvilleskatespot.com and facebook.com/forestville.skatespot

Forestville Chamber of Commerce
Mixers and community celebrations have been on hold these last two years but the chamber has been working on projects that help the economic vitality of our community. They will be giving our community an update on plans for the coming year. Learn more at forestvillechamber.org

5th District Supervisor News
Lynda Hopkins will be giving us a report on county plans and projects that impact our community so that we can continue to participate in government decisions on local issues. You can sign up for her newsletter online to stay up-to-date with county news: sonomacounty.ca.gov/Board-of-Supervisors/District-5
