I’m nominating Dan Northern as a Hometown Hero for his unfailing dedication to our town of Forestville. In the time I’ve had the pleasure to know Dan, he has always been helpful, knowledgeable and all around nice guy. He is Forestville tried and true.
Having grown up in Monte Rio, he worked in Forestville as the Fire Chief and is a dedicated youth park volunteer. When the property for the Forestville Downtown Oaks Park was purchased, Dan created a path to link it with the West County Trail so people could start using it without having to wait years for the county to put in the official trail and bridge.
Lastly, I recommend this recognition for Dan because of his incredible efforts concerning the county’s property and use-rights for the rezoning proposals here in our town. He went door to door to speak with residents, bringing us all together and raised awareness and sense of community in our little tight knit town.
He wrote volumes of letters, pursued critical research and shared the findings with everyone concerned. He communicated with the board of supervisors about the unrealistic proposals for the quantity and site-specific concerns and impracticalities for the units purposed within the boundaries of Forestville.
He graciously kept the public informed of his feedback with unwavering dedication. If it were not for his involvement, I firmly believe that Forestville would have much more high density development (which we are finding will not necessarily be built for low-moderate income). Large building projects that weren’t desirable in this small town, nor was it going to help much with the housing crisis in our area.
Dan Northern is a citizen that is truly passionate about Forestville, where the redwoods meet the vineyards. I mean the river.
