Hometown Heroes

Jacque Brazieal

By Lucy Hardcastle
Always smiling, always hopeful, always uplifting, Jacque is one of those community people who doesn’t know the meaning of “it can’t be done!” Her can-do attitude, undefeatable energy and positive spirit has propelled her far in her quest to build a skate park for the youngsters of Forestville.

This passion to build a skatepark started in 2017 as a Senior high school project for her son Ellery. Seeing how much skateboarding helped her son and what a skateboard park could do for the kids of Forestville, Jacque found her mission. She would pursue her son’s dream.

Since then she has put thousands of hours in creating this vision. From working with businesses, schools, other nonprofits and the 5th District County staff she is on the cusp of realizing Ellery’s dream. It’s within reach thanks to her Herculean efforts. To encourage kids who love skateboarding, Jacque has put on several after school skateboarding programs for 4th to 8th graders at Forestville School.

She hosts skateboarding events including skate jams, movies, fun runs and workshops to get the word out and raise money for this future skatepark to be called the Skatespot. She brought several teens from Laguna High who are keen on skateboarding to help weed at the Downtown Oaks Park Work Day in March. She even runs the bingo booth at the Youth Park BBQ to keep this dream alive.

A big thank you to Jacque for caring about our youth, to never giving up despite the hurdles she’s faced, to finding ways to work with others and build our community. She is a wonderful asset to Forestville and for that reason, she is an ideal Hometown Hero.
